mmmm, tasteless soda

not only can I use "practically tasteless" bicarb soda... but I can also saving money by baking my own cakes just like the professionals do

Isn't it funny that the baking soda makers are also aspirin manufacturers! The packaging is interesting, too. It looks almost like a bar of soap. I wonder if there was a tin inside under the wrappings...

This is a fun idea for a blog! Maybe your grandmother collected antique cookbooks and your uncle thought she'd like to add this to her collection?

i'm not sure about the tin, the soda was also used as a cleaning product, so it was probably all used up in a week - not need to stress about keeping it dry.

thank you. it feels a tad strange having a dialogue with a woman who's been dead for over a century, but it's such a quaint book that i think it deserves some discussion

Hi weenie_elise! Thanks for becoming a Before Our Time follower. I look forward to your comments and views. Mrs Beeton is being quoted tomorrow (she forced me back into the kitchen to try stock-making...)

I love your blog! I've been wanting to read the bio. of her but can't due to it being so modern and all. Next year! In the meantime we can be moody Ingrids together... xoxo

no worries megan, it looks very interesting

marzipan, i can write something here about her, considering she's been dead for quite a while, i definitely think she falls into the before 1950 category...
