Well, really, in 1865 she WAS middle aged. I wonder of the syphalis, as I wonder if lyme disease was about then, as it is the same spyrochete (sp) as that of syphalis, and nothing is a greater harbinger of infected deer ticks then full skirts and petticotes trailing through summer grasses, poor lamb.

No kidding? Wow. Her name always makes me think of somebody matronly. She certainly had a lot of advice about housewifery for somebody so young.

allegedly she got the syphilis from her husband, but who knows if you can believe anything you read on wikipedia these days
