Fun and frivolity from housewifery's greatest patroness
Shh... I don't believe Mrs. Beeton was ever a little girl. Immortally a wise, middle-aged woman.
which is rather ironic really, considering she died before she was thirty... allegedly from syphilis
No kidding? Wow. Her name always makes me think of somebody matronly. She certainly had a lot of advice about housewifery for somebody so young.
Well, really, in 1865 she WAS middle aged.I wonder of the syphalis, as I wonder if lyme disease was about then, as it is the same spyrochete (sp) as that of syphalis, and nothing is a greater harbinger of infected deer ticks then full skirts and petticotes trailing through summer grasses, poor lamb.
allegedly she got the syphilis from her husband, but who knows if you can believe anything you read on wikipedia these days
